  • Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in custom-engineered, specialty sutures, recently announced an advanced braiding technology that can divide a suture into multiple end branches or integrate several “loops” within the strand. This continuous braiding process can produce variations of complex, divided segments at the end of a suture, or between singular round or flat tape segments. The need for expensive and time-intensive manual sewing is eliminated. 

    The braiding technology allows for a broad range of configurations that are expected to be used in orthopedic applications where two sutures are presently used for fixation.

     

    At this time, the furcated braiding process can be used to customize Teleflex Medical OEM’s high-strength Force Fiber® OrthoTape® Braid, a flat tape, and to Force Fiber Fusion® Suture, a product that transitions from round suture to a flat center and back to round suture in one seamless strand.

  • Teleflex Medical OEM, a leading provider of medical device development and manufacturing services, announces two state-of-the-art EPIC Medtec™ Centers located in Mansfield, Massachusetts and Maple Grove, Minnesota. These facilities bring together expert engineering talent and extensive, integrated capabilities to enable clients to develop market-ready devices, reduce technical risk, and get the devices to market faster. Most device development can be accomplished in a few days instead of the weeks, months, or years required by traditional methods.

    The EPIC Medtec™ Center (Engineering, Prototyping, Innovation, Collaboration) in Mansfield focuses on the development of sutures and performance fibers, while the Maple Grove center is dedicated to catheter and access device innovation. Teleflex Medical OEM already operates a third EPIC Medtec™ Center, focused on catheter and access devices, in Limerick, Ireland.

    The facilities utilize the multi-stage IDEA Medtec™ Process (Innovation, Development, Engineering, Accelerator) that incorporates a client’s requirements into a device. New product ideas can be explored, prototyped, and tested on-site. Design for manufacturability is emphasized at each step of the process. Guess work is virtually eliminated since decision-making is data-driven via Teleflex Medical OEM’s proprietary analytic tools.

    The smartly configured floorplans of the EPIC Medtec™ Centers were carefully planned to promote innovation in a collaborative environment.   • Teleflex Medical OEM, a global leader in specialized sutures, braids, and fibers, announces an innovative suture technology: Force Fiber Fusion® Suture. This “two-in- one” construct transitions from round suture to a flat braid center segment and back to round suture. It has a broader footprint and offers a more uniform distribution of pressure than similar suture.* This may reduce tissue strangulation and a “cutting effect” in applications where tissue pull-through may be a concern.

    Prepared from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), Force Fiber Fusion® Suture is softer and more pliable than similar products on the market.** The suture also is strong, durable, and lubricious. Fusion Suture is braided using a proprietary, continuous process that creates seamless transitions between each segment. Don’t confuse it with look-alike products that are simply a flat segment “sewn” onto two round sutures.

    Compared to similar suture* on the market, Force Fiber Fusion® Suture has a lower knot profile and an average knot height that is ¼ the size. In addition, the height of Fusion Suture’s flat center section is 38% thinner than similar products.* Force Fiber Fusion® Suture is cleared in the USA for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including the use of allograft tissue for orthopedic procedures. It is offered in USP suture sizes 1 to 5 and a wide selection of color and pattern options. Widths, lengths, and patterns can be customized to meet specific requirements.

    Force Fiber® OrthoTape® Braid’s Performance Characteristics: Outstanding!

    • OrthoTape® Braid is flatter than similar tapes on the market.** In fact, its profile is 40% thinner! The braid gently contours and lays flat against the surface.
       

    • The braid will not pull through tissue or bone as easily as suture of similar size and composition. It is ideal for applications where tissue pull-through may be a concern.
       

    • OrthoTape® Braid has a broad footprint for a uniform level of pressure over the surface area.
       

    • The braid is stronger than suture of a similar size and material.** The braid has a silk-like feel that is gentle on tissue and gloves.

    Construction

    • Available in a variety of widths ranging from 1mm to 5mm.

    Indications

    Sterile Force Fiber® OrthoTape® Braid is cleared in the USA for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including the use of allograft tissue for orthopedic procedures. The braid is cleared for USA marketing under a 510(k) as a Class II device.
